Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about auditable online draws, cryptographic proof, SHA-256 and rejection sampling on EntropyDraw.

What is an auditable online draw?

An auditable online draw publishes all data needed to verify the result: entropy source, SHA-256 hashes, range, date/time and description. On EntropyDraw, anyone can independently reproduce the draw without trusting the operator.

How does EntropyDraw's cryptographic proof work?

Rules lock first. EntropyDraw waits for the next public drand round, checks the beacon, builds a SHA-256 draw hash from the locked inputs plus that beacon, then uses rejection sampling. The image alone does not hide the future number.

What is real entropy and why does it matter?

Real entropy is unpredictability nobody can choose. entropy.jpg is public and fixed, so it is an audit anchor. In auditable mode the surprise is the League of Entropy beacon, which does not exist at lock time.

What is rejection sampling?

A technique that ensures a fair draw: instead of using modulo (which can favor some numbers), we reject values outside the range until a valid number is found. Every number has exactly the same probability.

Can the draw result be manipulated?

After publication, the result is immutable due to SHA-256 hashes. Pre-draw manipulation is prevented by the public beacon (drand): since the rules are locked before the beacon exists, no one can predict or choose a favorable outcome.

How do I verify a draw using the QR code?

After the draw, scan the QR code or open the verification URL. The page shows the number, SHA-256 hashes, range, timestamp and entropy image. With this published data, you confirm the result is legitimate.

How do I audit the draw algorithm?

Open the /d/{id} page, fetch the published drand round, confirm SHA-256(signature) matches randomness, rebuild the v2 draw hash from the locked fields, and rerun rejection sampling. Every field needed is listed on the draw page.

Who benefits from a transparent draw?

Online raffles, team picks, promotions, academic research and any situation where trust and transparency matter. Cryptographic proof lets participants and spectators validate the result.

Why wait for a public beacon?

Waiting ~6–12 seconds for the next drand round means the number does not exist until after the rules are locked. That is what makes raffles, prizes and contested picks trustworthy — nobody can compute a favorable winner in advance.
