True RNG vs pseudo RNG
A true RNG (TRNG) samples physical or high-entropy sources. A pseudorandom generator (PRNG) expands a seed with a deterministic algorithm. Both can look random; only one is hard to reproduce without the right inputs.
When PRNGs fail public trust
If the seed is secret or controlled by one party, others cannot prove the draw was fair. Even a strong PRNG becomes a trust problem for raffles and contests.
EntropyDraw’s approach
We ground the draw in a public entropy image, bind parameters with SHA-256, and publish hashes so anyone can recompute the result. That is closer to “prove it” than “trust our private seed.”
Takeaway
Use opaque PRNGs for games and simulations where trust is not required. Use published entropy and cryptographic proof when fairness must be independently verified.
